EVENT BENEFITS CHILDREN AT HOSPICIO DE HUÉRFANOS, THE OLDEST ORPHANAGE IN SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA
Hearts of Stone, a non profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of at-risk children, are honored and thrilled to announce the 6th Annual Pura Vida No Pro Surf Contest and Clinic to be held on November, 17, 2007 at the Pelican Hotel in Playa Esterillos Este, Costa Rica.
Again in 2007 volunteer surfers will gather on the beach to mentor the children from the Hospicio de Huerfanos. The day features a surf clinic, beach games, barbeque and a surf contest for the volunteers. The surf contest is sanctioned by the FCS, Costa Rica’s governing body for surfing competitions.
“Entering its 6th year, the Pura Vida No Pro is proud to serve as a stable and positive influence in these children’s lives,” says Steve Sanchez, Founder of Hearts of Stone.
Surfers are welcome to attend the Pura Vida No Pro this year. An orientation meeting will be held at Cabinas Las Olas in Playa Hermosa on November 15th to familiarize volunteers with the event. On the 17th, everyone is asked to arrive at the Pelican Hotel in Esterillos Este by 8:00 am to welcome the children arriving from San Jose.
“Hearts of Stone is excited to have earned the support of the Quiksilver Foundation and Nalgene Outdoor as the primary sponsors of the 2007 event,” said Tim McManus, Sponsorship and Media Director for the Pura Vida No Pro. “The generous involvement of these companies enables us to mentor these children in a deeper and more meaningful way.”
“Nalgene is excited to be involved with the Pura Vida No Pro in 2007. It’s refreshing to work on a project that supports our brand and gives back to the community at the same time. We are thrilled that our sponsorship will have a positive impact on the children at the Hospicio,” said Abe Hayes, Sales Manager for Nalgene Outdoor.
Quinn Campbell, Central American Sales Manager for Quiksilver, had this to say regarding the event: “Costa Rica and its people have given so much to so many visitors and traveling surfers over the years, its great to see people giving back to this special country and their people through this unique and uplifting event. Quiksilver is happy and honored to be giving something back to these Costa Rican children. Introducing these kids to surfing can and does change peoples’ lives.”
New for 2007 will be the production of the “Finding Pura Vida Media Project” produced by Organic Process and Peninsula Media LLC. Featuring a documentary, photo journal and video blog, the “Finding Pura Vida Media Project” will raise awareness of the event and motivate surfers to give back to wave rich communities. The documentary and the photo journal will be distributed through Create Space and BookSurge, members of the Amazon.com group of companies that specialize in print-on-demand technology. A live video blog from the event, being produced in cooperation with Current Media, will be updated and posted in real time.
“This project will show the value of cause travel, inspiring surfers to become proactive agents of change as they seek out waves around the world” says Mitchell Davis, Founder of Organic Process.
The media project will be released in early 2008 via a series of “Finding Pura Vida Media Events” in Charleston, San Diego, Phoenix and Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica.
