At least six surf-related nonprofits will receive proceeds from a festival and contest kickoff event to include the NYC premier of the Spectacular Adventures film. Named ‘A rising Tide…’, the event will take place Wednesday September 23rd 7pm at Bar 13.
WAVES for Development, Waves of Health, the Best Day Foundation, Stoked Mentoring, the Surfrider Foundation and SurfAid International will provide information on their surf nonprofit programs at the event, hosted by the New York Surf Film Festival and WAVES for Development. Surfing has inspired many individuals to take action in the areas of film, conservation, sustainability, education, health, and humanitarian aid. This event will bring together representatives from each in a spirit of collaboration.
Spectacular Adventures is a surf film about professional East Coast surfers – starring Cory Lopez, Ben Borgious, Gabe Cling, Asher Nolan and more, whose travel adventures take them to exotic locations in the world. The NYC premiere of the film will be featured at this surf charity kickoff event for the Unsound Pro surf competition second annual New York Surf Film Festival, both held September 25th through the 27th.
WAVES for Development International Executive Director says “As a new surf nonprofit on the scene, this is a great opportunity to share ideas and success stories with other well established not-for-profit organizations; I feel blessed that the NYSFF, the Unsound Pro and the crew with Spectacular Adventures have taken an interest in all of the surf-related causes. Our idea is to create a platform to celebrate and support the diverse work of surf nonprofits”.
NY Surf Film Festival co-founder, Tyler Breuer adds “I think what WAVES for Development is doing with this event and how they want to share success stories with other surf not-for-profit organizations is such a great thing for not only bringing awareness to the NY surf community but also forming alliances that will only help each other in the long run. I’m stoked that the New York Surf Film Festival and Unsound Pro is involved and helping to support this event. Plus the NY Premiere of “Spectacular Adventures” is going to be incredible and get everyone pumped for the following weeks events!”
