Like to buy Gerry Lopez’s first-ever Pipeline Master’s pay check? A ’60s “Surf Champ” pinball machine all that’s missing from your surf-stoked games room? Want to own and ride your ’70s surf hero’s personally shaped surfboard this winter, or paddle the Molokai Channel on a 1930s Tom Blake paddleboard?
Just two days remain before the hammer drops on over 100 highly collectible pieces of surfing history and memorabilia that comprise the 4th biennial Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction, presented by Quiksilveredition.
To be held at the Blaisdell Center, Honolulu, July 20 & 21, 2007, the show will open Friday, July 20, with the “Antiques Roadshow”-style appraisals that will take place between 12 and 4pm. Members of the public are invited to bring in their personal surf-collector items for a free, professional appraisal.
The main auction will be held on Saturday, July 21, from 5pm. Doors will be open for viewing on Friday, from 12-4pm and on Saturday, from 10am to 5pm. Viewing is free, however you will need to purchase a bidding number to enter the main auction. A portion of all sales will go to the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation Scholarship Fund.
Vintage artwork, surf posters, original photographs, Duke Kahanamoku memorabilia, 70 prized surfboards from the past century and much more are poised to go under the hammer. This year’s auction has attracted a record field of international surf collectors and legendary surfing personalities who will be on hand for the auction.
