Saturday, August 16th has been slated as the official date of the day-long Fifth Annual Great Lakes Surf Luau, the most highly anticipated surfing event in the Midwest. Held at New Buffalo City Beach and Third Coast Surf Shop, this family friendly, free-to-the-public event draws visitors from throughout the country.
The event kicks off at 9:30am with a stand-up paddleboard demonstration and paddleboard race registration at New Buffalo CityBeach before the races start at noon. The paddleboard races are a unique event in the Great Lakes region and are sure to provide plenty of action. A beach clean up will follow at 2pm, giving local residents and visitors alike a chance to help keep beaches and lakes clean.
After festivities at the beach in the morning, the afternoon action will start with an Open House at Third Coast Surf Shop. Open House activities include live music, an outdoor cookout with Rios Mexican food, a chance to meet national surf gear sales representatives, regionally-inspired surf art by local surfers, and surf films playing on a large outdoor screen. There will also be a huge sale going on throughout the shop, giving people a chance to take advantage of end of summer clearance prices. Throughout the day at the shop, $5 tickets will be sold for a raffle of surf-related prizes, including new McTavish and C3D Industries surfboards.
Third Coast Surf Shop was founded in May 2005 with a simple mission: to spread the joy of the surfing lifestyle in the Great Lakes. Owned and operated by Great Lakes surfer and shaper Ryan Gerard, the shop offers rentals, lessons, repair, and a comprehensive selection of gear for surfing, skimboarding, skateboarding and sandboarding.
