On July 26, 2009 (Sunday) a historical moment will take place. On this day Tom Pöhaku Stone will embark on his dream to paddle a traditional solid wood board from Molokai – O’ahu during the Rainbow Paddleboard race. His quest is to know if his küpuna actually completed such crossings as found in stories of old, as well as raise funds for Kanalu, Pünänä Leo o Kamakau & Nä Kama Kai. We are asking you to pledge a $ amount for every mile Pöhaku paddles – total distance paddled will be approx. 33 miles ending at the Kona Brew Restaurant in Hawai’i Kai. All funds will go to support the various programs of Kanalu, Pünänä Leo o Kamakau, & Nä Kama Kai. Your contributions are tax deductible; print form for tax purposes.
You can make pledges by email sending them to this address: email@example.com
Kanalu is a non-profit organization founded on the traditions of our kupuna or ancestors providing cultural education, ocean safety/awareness, preparing our community (and those who seek to learn) for a life in our ocean environment. Through the the efforts of Kanalu we learn the significance of the Hawaiian knowledge of our ocean passed down through the generations, and the meaning of Mälama Kai, Mälama ‘Äina, Hä Hawai’i, & Aloha. Our efforts & work are made possible through contributions made by you so we may provide for you. “Mahalo to my good friend Alika who loaned me his board for this endeavor” Möhala i ke kai nä maka o nä pua. Unfolded by the sea are the faces of the flowers. Flowers thrive where the sea meets the ‘äina, as thriving people we are found where living conditions are good.
