Charities become the real winners as silent auction is underway at Hansen Surfshop in Encinitas.
Gary Hanel’s pelagically inspired cosmic green Jelly Egg Quad with color work and glassing by Moonlight Glassing was the walk-away favorite at the Sacred Craft Craftsman Expression for Charity presented by Hansen Surfboards. Hanel and Moonlight have together won a $1,000 gift certificate to Hansen’s and a full page ‘Design Forum’ feature in Surfer magazine.
The real winners are of course the charities involved in the silent auction. The Gary Hanel/Moonlight Glassing charity is the Smile Train, a charity which provides surgery for children with cleft palate.
The idea was simple: Beautiful surfboards built for a good cause. A collaboration of surfboard craftsman put their hearts on the line for the Craftsman Expression Session for Charity presented by Hansens. The exquisite boards were unveiled at the Sacred Craft Consumer Surfboard Expo last week. Expo revellers were given one raffle ticket and asked to vote on their favorite board.
It was not an easy task as the board builders stepped up their handicraft in a big way. All eight of the special boards are now available for bid under silent auction at Hansens Surfboards in Encinitas. The silent auction will end on December 1, 2008. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the charity of the board makers choice.
This years’ craftsman and their accompanying charity are as follows:
Gary Hanel & Moonlight Glassing/Smile Train
Ron House & Drew Brophy/Surfing Heritage Foundation
Matt Biolos & Lost/Rell Sunn Foundation
Stu Kenson/Habitat For Humanity
Danny Hess/SurfAid International
Dave Daum/Youth Unlimited Gospel Ministries
Hansens Surfboards/Surfrider Foundation
Jim Phillips & Headline Graphics PhotoCloth/Wounded Warriors
The silent auction which benefits the above charities takes place at Hansen Surfboards now until December 1, 2008 – just in time for a tax write-off! Go visit these beautiful and exotic boards today.
