Loose Fit Surf Shop in Devon is on track to represent the UK in the European Businesses Awards for the Environment, thanks to their pioneering ‘Carbon Zero Surfing Campaign’ implemented in conjunction with co2balance.com.
Loose-Fit have achieved deserved recognition for their environmental stance and have been selected as one of the major winners in the Green Apple Environmental Awards. They will be presented with their accolade at the House of Commons later this year.
Green Apple is an accredited feeder programme for the business awards and Loose-Fit now have the opportunity to represent their country in the prestigious, international business awards held in Brussels.
Scott Burrows, Loose-Fit Environmental & Retail Manager said: “We are delighted to be going to the House of Commons to pick up our award, and would be especially proud to progress and represent the UK. We have been working with co2balance.com to reduce our carbon footprint (the amount of carbon dioxide the company produces), and then offset the remaining amount, making Loose Fit the world’s first Carbon Zero surf shop”.
co2balance offers several ways to offset companies’ carbon footprints and help make them become ‘CarbonZero’; through energy efficiency projects in Kenya, renewable energy projects in East Africa and through tree planting (as trees absorb carbon) in various locations throughout Europe.
Mark Simpson, Director of co2balance said: “Loose Fit has done extremely well and it is great to see businesses looking after the environment and being rewarded for doing so.”
Since their decision to work with co2balance in 2006, Loose-Fit have planted in excess of 200 trees, thereby absorbing 180 tonnes of carbon dioxide. In addition, Loose Fit are a member of the ’1% for the Planet’ scheme, whereby they donate one percent of their net sales to select environmental projects worldwide.
