Big Red Productions is stoked to announce the winners of the 2008 Huntington Beach Surf Theatre Film Festival, which took place at the Huntington Beach Art Center during the US Open of Surfing from July 25-27th.
Moderated by Peter “PT” Townend, the night was full of laughs and insider stories from Fig’s best friends and family. The Huntington Beach Surf Theatre Film Festival is devoted to showcasing a wide range of surf films to the public. Though most surf films would be bundled into the “documentary” category, they know that surfers are specialists; they are longboarders, short-boarders, classic old-schoolers, new school aerialists, big wave chargers, stand up paddlers, world explorers and humanitarians.
These people have a commitment to the ocean and surfing and have done their part to capture it on film.
The winners are:
Best Corpo Video: Rip Curl for SomeWhere
Best Independent Video: Under the Sun by Cyrus Sutton
Most Innovative Video: New Emissions of Light and Sound by Globe
Best Cinematography: Quest by DeepWater Films
Best Hardcore Video: The Skills 2 Pay The Bills by Jessie Marley
“This year, the competition was high- all of the companies have raised the bar in surf video production,” said Dave Carlos of Big Red Productions. ” Quality, action and editing made this a really tight race.”
The real winner of the weekend festival was the Long Beach Veterans Orthotics and Prosthetics Lab, the recipient of proceeds from the sold-out private screening of Between the Lines, a film by Scott Bass, Ty Ponder and Troy Page which portrays two surfers during the Vietnam War.
