Quiksilver will host a release party and two special screenings of the new film “Chasing the Dream” at the Huntington Beach Library Theatre on May 9th starting at 6pm.
“Chasing the Dream” was showcased at the film festivals in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obisbo and most recently Newport Beach where it stood out from some 1,800 films to receive the “Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking Award”. Now Quiksilver is excited to bring the movie to Huntington Beach for a special screening for the local community. Pre-screening festivities will include free food, raffle prizes and a meet & greet with the film’s stars. A handful of Quiksilver athletes will be in attendance along with surf film icons including Gary Busey and the masterful John Philbin who played “Turtle” in the 80s classic “North Shore”. The party will be followed by two special screenings of the film at 7pm and 9pm.
“Chasing the Dream” is a candid portrayal of eight Huntington Beach High School surfers trying to obtain the impossible – a career in professional surfing. The teens must steer through the ranks of scholastic surfing while dealing with injuries, overbearing parents, demanding school curriculums and a trip to Australia aimed at separating those who surf from the ones who win. Narrated by Hollywood star Gary Busey and featuring interviews with eight-time world champion Kelly Slater, Tom Carroll and Mark Richards, “Chasing the Dream” is a coming-of-age story about kids who will do anything to achieve their dream of becoming pro surfers. The film is the work of Metalstorm executive producer Josh Williams, producer John Philbin and director Angelo Mei.
