SIMA Liquid Nation Ball Raises Over $250,000 for Charity

SURF INDUSTRY RAISES OVER $250K FOR HUMANITARIAN CHARITIES AT SIMA’S LIQUID NATION BALL

Satin pants custom made to look like Greg Noll’s famous black and white boardshorts sell for $3,500. A Hawaiian Koa Olo surfboard shaped by Greg Noll goes for $30,000, and a private surf photo session with Jeff Divine fetches $8,000.

These are just a few of the high prices surf industry executives dolled out recently to help raise funds for surf-related humanitarian organizations like SurfAid, Surfer’s Healing, and Boarding for Breast Cancer at SIMA’s (Surf Industry Manufacturers Association) Liquid Nation Ball.

Surpassing SIMA’s expectations, it is estimated that more than $250,000 was raised at the 4th annual Liquid Nation Ball. Held at the spectacular La Jolla oceanfront residence of Fernando and Vicky Aguerre, the guest list read like the Who’s Who of the surf industry.

Surf icons Rob Machado, Lisa Andersen, Greg Noll, Paul Naude, Bob McKnight, Dick Baker and more all enjoyed great food, dancing and a highly entertaining live auction in which the host himself, Fernando Aguerre, Vice-President of the SIMA Humanitarian Fund and Co-Founder of Reef, literally sold the pants he was wearing for the sake of charity.

“The Liquid Nation Ball continues to be a success each year not just because we know how to throw a good party but because we all care about the same things – surfing and helping others enjoy and benefit from surfing,” said Fernando Aguerre.

“Even though our businesses all compete with each other during the day, we all like and respect each other and look forward to this opportunity to have a good time and raise money for very worthwhile charities that will help us spread our love of surfing to at risk youth, autistic kids, and so much more.”

Funds raised from Liquid Nation Ball 4 will provide grants to surf-related humanitarian organizations that focus on areas such as spinal cord injuries, breast cancer education, malaria prevention, at-risk youth, mental health and autism.

Beneficiaries include: Keep a Breast, Boarding for Breast Cancer, Surfer’s Healing, Jimmy Miller Foundation, Outdoor Outreach, Get a Board Foundation, Rabbit Kekai Foundation, Stoked Mentoring, L.A. Surf Bus, Life Rolls On, Project Wipeout, Surf Aid International and Sumba Foundation.
