Here’s one from last week, 11th January, when big-wave’s unofficial Superman, Shane Dorian paid a visit to Portugal’s newly infamous town of Nazare.
Nazare recently landed on the world’s surf map with a bang when Hawaiian Garrett MacNamara broke the world record for largest wave ever ridden at the sleepy, formerly unknown Portuguese fishing town’s canyon-edged beachbreak. That alone proves it’s muscle.
But we love Dorian’s quote somewhere near the end of this, that if you could have paddled into the biggest waves he saw out there, “they’d have been the biggest waves ever paddled into”.
We’ll be seeing more of this wave. Lots more. So consider this a taste.
